Northern English Springer Spaniel Society

Championship Show 2014

A change of venue for the NESSS Championship Show held 8th June. This year we were at Bowburn in slightly unfamiliar surroundings and a little further North than the wonderful Hurworth venue we are used to and that has been our home for so long. We had to give way to , can you believe it, a four day Country & Western festival. All things being equal we shall be back at Hurworth next year when our judge elect will be Richard Bott on his first CC appointment in the breed.

Bownburn affords two good sized halls with good natural lighting but towards the end of the very warm afternoon one or two of the exhibitors were feeling a little uncomfortable due to the heat. Our judge had come from Norway in the form of Per Iversen and no stranger to awarding CC's in the breed he swiftly judged through his male classes to find his CC and ultimate BOB BIS in the shape of Peasblossom Jester owned by Jackie and Dave Mitchell. This I believe was his 2nd CC (correct me if I am wrong please). Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Show came from Minor Puppy Dog and it was Ray Smith's Buona Notte.

In bitches the wonderful and must have been sometimes felt elusive third came along for Chris Savell's Petranella Just Perfick JW. Now subject to KC confirmation she will make it a Sh Ch in front of her name. Closely run to the finishing post by her kennel mate Petranella Gossip Girl JW who won a lovely Limit Bitch class to take the RCC. Chris handled Gossip Girl and Richard Bott, celebrating his 40th birthday was the handler for Perfick. What a nice way to celebrate ones birthday and especially with partner Anthony Allen attending Three Counties and winning BOB and then going on the Group 1. Well done folks!

Fabulous raffle. Brilliant Tombola and cakes to die for as usual went toward making the show a success and we thank you all for your supporting the show and an entry of 95 dogs making 103 entries.

Not forgetting the three Special Awards we run in the interval. This year Sally Foster (Shanoah) judged them and drew an entry of 26 exhibits where the placed dogs share the stake money. This is something we have been doing for the past three years and it certainly gives the person judging the opportunity to draw a tidy few dogs. Most usefull when you are doing your best to climb the judging ladder.

The Commemorative Catalogue which was ably printed by Eve Whitley was a huge success giving the three generation pedigree of every exhibit and making it a real keepsake. There are one or two still available at the time of writing.
